Manual Lymph Therapy
is an advanced form of massage, which must be done by someone specifically trained in these techniques. It uses light, rhythmic manipulations that improve the activity of lymph vessels gently stimulating and increasing lymph flow and fluid movement in the body. It is a non-invasive technique that has no adverse side effects and requires no medication. It is used to relieve stagnation, reduce swelling, relieve pain, decrease bruising, and increase rate of healing from surgery of all types, sports injuries, sprains and strains, chronic venous insufficiencies, amputation, trauma, burns, skin conditions, migraine headaches, rheumatoid arthritis, fibromyalgia, chronic congestion, and other sources of swelling in the body. It is often used for detoxification and general
relaxation of the body.
The lymph system carries excess protein, water and wastes from the connective tissues back into the bloodstream. As the lymph fluid moves, it is cleaned, filtered and concentrated.
The lymph nodes are responsible for many immune system responses. If the lymph pathways become blocked, clogged, damaged, congested or severed, the fluids will build up in the connective tissue. If the
connective tissue is damaged due to burns, chronic inflammation, ulceration, surgery, or other conditions, then the lymph system must also carry damaged cells, inflammatory products, and wastes away from the
area. The more efficient the lymph system is, the quicker the healing time and the stronger the immune system.
Swelling is the body's natural response to surgery. The management of swelling will determine the severity of one's scars, bruises and pain. Many people who are planning to undergo surgery will begin Manual
Lymph Therapy treatments at least one week before the surgery to stimulate the immune system, assure the health of the lymphatic system and speed healing. Because Manual Lymph Therapy techniques are gentle,
subsequent treatment may begin as early as the day after surgery. These techniques often help post surgical patients have a shorter and more comfortable recovery.
Manual Lymph Therapy increases the body's rate of healing. Blood flows through the body bringing nutrients to, and wastes from, the body's tissues. The distance between the tissues and the blood determines how
easily the tissues receive the oxygen needed to heal themselves. The closer the tissues and blood are to each other, the faster the healing occurs. Swelling increases the distance that nutrients have to flow to the
tissues, making healing more difficult. Manual Lymph Therapy decreases swelling by improving lymph flow throughout the body and allowing more nutrients and oxygen to reach the cells, while removing waste materials.
