QiGong, or Chi-Kung, is an ancient Chinese system of exercise that stimulates and balances the flow (qi or chi) in the body. Qi is considered the vital life energy which flows through pathways or meridians in the body. Acupuncture makes use of these meridians for healing.
Studies in China and the United States show that QiGong can increase circulation, reduce stress and increase resistance to disease. Traditional Chinese Medicine emphasizes the importance of teaching the
patient to remain well by using the various methods of QiGong.
The combination of movement, relaxation, and breathing can improve strength, flexibility, and reverse damage caused by injuries and disease. It stimulates and nourishes the body's internal organs by circulating
the qi, as well as promoting the flow of blood, lymph fluids and nerve impulses. The result is to harmonize the body and stimulate the body's natural healing abilities.
QiGong has successfully been used to treat digestive problems, sinus allergies, asthma, arthritis, insomnia, pain, depression, anxiety, cancer, coronary heart disease, prostate problems, and AIDS. It has even
been used to reduce nearsightedness and farsightedness. Daily QiGong practice can promote relaxation, lower blood pressure, pulse rates, metabolic rates, and oxygen demand.
