The shoulder is really a combination of several joints combined with tendons and muscles. This allows the arm a wide range of motion.
Shoulder pain may appear in many different forms. Pain may be felt only when the arm is moved or all of the time depending upon the underlying cause of the pain. It may be temporary or it may continue and
require medical intervention.
Most shoulder problems come from the muscles, ligaments, tendons, or fascia, rather than the bones. The majority of the problems are diagnosed as tendonitis, bursitis, injury, or arthritis. Other causes of
shoulder pain may be tumors, infection or nerve problems.
Some problems may result from simple overuse. Rest may be the appropriate cure. In other cases, the underlying cause of shoulder problems may be misalignment in some other part of the body. If the
body is not aligned properly, the shoulder blade may not be able to glide, thereby causing pain and an inability to move. If the neck is out of alignment, it could cause pressure on nerves, which appear as
pain in the shoulder.
Standard medical treatment for shoulder pain can vary significantly from one person to another and depend a lot on the type of medical professional in charge of the case. Treatment may involve altered
activities, rest, physical therapy, medication, and/or surgery. Many people do not obtain relief from pain after the standard conservative therapies and therefore resort to surgery. A number of those who
resort to one or more surgeries still suffer pain and or lack of function in the shoulder.
Myofascial release and other manual therapies may provide relief in such cases. Windsong Therapy and Wellness will evaluate and consider the whole body before designing a treatment plan that is unique to your specific case.
The goal is to decrease or eliminate pain and restore function to the shoulder. This may involve working on other areas of your body to restore alignment and balance before working on adhesions or restrictions that may be causing your symptoms.
Windsong Therapy and Wellness treats many shoulder pain sufferers who have not found relief with other types of treatment and therapy. We work to discover the cause of your pain and restore you to an active
functional lifestyle.
Some shoulder pain may be caused because the shoulder blade is not gliding correctly, while other pain may be caused by a fascial restriction in the rib cage that does not allow the proper extension for the shoulder
to move the way it should. We look at the whole body to determine the cause of the shoulder pain and then correct it. If the posture is poor or the spine is misaligned, it may contribute to the
restrictions that are impeding movement. We work to align the body, relieve fascial restrictions and gently release adhesions that are preventing proper movement throughout the body. When the body is
balanced, stress on the joints will be relieved and that often relieves pain and improves range of motion.
